The Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine (CHSTM) was founded in 1986 and now serves as a focus for the discipline in North West England and beyond.
Its work focuses mainly on social and cultural developments since 1800, with particular strengths in contemporary history, integrated approaches to science, technology and medicine, and science communication studies.
It is home to a Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine, funded by the Wellcome Trust.
